On the 24 February 2021 the European Commission published the Communication “Forging a Climate – resilient Europe – the new EU Strategy on Adaptation to Climate Change” setting out the pathway to prepare for the unavoidable impacts of climate change and become climate resilient by 2050. The strategies introduce the needed approaches to make the adaptation smarter, swifter and more systemic while also addressing how to step up international action on adaptation to climate change in line with the “stronger Europe in the World” priority defined by the Commission for the period 2019-2024.

This communication precedes the “Fit for 55” Climate and Energy Package which is expected to be published in June, which promises to be a strong revision of many important EU laws like the Renewable Energy Directive, the Emission Trading System or the Energy Tax Directive. This new package will complement the actions proposed in the EU strategy on adaptation to climate change to provide a further contribution toward the achievement of the main Green Deal goal of reaching climate neutrality by 2050.

In this One Hour with Europe we will have the privilege to host Clara De La Torre – Deputy Director General of DG CLIMA in the European Commission that will provide an overview of the current status of implementation of the EU Strategy on Adaptation on Climate Change as well as some anticipations about the “Fit for 55” Package.
