EUREKA is the world’s biggest public network for international cooperation in R&D and innovation. EUREKA’s focus is on the SME sector but large companies and research performing organisations can also qualify for support. EUREKA projects focus on the R&D of close-to-market products, processes or services.
In the face of global challenges like climate change and the resulting need to develop low carbon energy technologies, Belgium (Flanders), Canada, Finland, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain are supporting the development of R&D solutions involving green hydrogen, by launching a call for projects. The call is now open and Enterprise Ireland is co-ordinating activity in Ireland. Companies and Research Performing Organisations (RPOs) from all countries participating in this call can submit joint project applications through the EUREKA online portal. Each project consortium must be led by an SME from a participating country and must include a company from at least two participating countries as a minimum requirement. The closing date for receipt of proposals has been extended from Friday 5th November to Monday November 15th.

Collaborative international R&D and innovation projects submitted under this call by companies and RPOs from the countries listed above, should aim to address solutions for transporting hydrogen and related topics, contributing to the pilot action on green hydrogen in the new European Research Area (ERA).
EUREKA will manage the evaluation process and projects that achieve the required grade will be recommended for funding by national agencies. Clients of Enterprise Ireland, IDA Ireland and Údarás that are part of a successful consortium will be invited to submit a national funding application following the announcement of results by EUREKA, expected in Q2 2022. Interested companies and RPOs in Ireland should contact David.flood@enterprise-ireland for further details on the call process, eligibility and national funding rates.
