The recent controversy relating to the proposed introduction of a digital national identity card in the UK has served to highlight the importance of the COST-funded History of Identity Documentation in European Nations (HIDDEN) project. Led by Dr Jennifer Redmond at Maynooth University, the project looks at the history of ID regimes in Europe and beyond, drawing connections between the past and present.

Xecs is a Eureka Cluster specifically designed to accelerate the pace of sustainable industrial innovation in the Electronics Components & Systems (ECS) community. The intent of Xecs is to create an ambitious international collaboration programme. On May 12th the COST Association revealed the titles of 70 new Actions approved following an international evaluation process that began last October. The new Actions cover a diverse range of topics including physical sciences, agriculture, environment, life sciences, humanities and business. Twenty one of the new Actions include a proposer based in Ireland.

The SMART 5th Call for Projects is open

The SMART 5th Call for Projects is now open! Consortia have until Tuesday 03rd May to submit a Full Project Proposal. Consortia that submitted a Project Outline (PO) before the deadline of Monday 24th January will receive feedback after Monday 7th March and successful consortia will be invited to proceed to FPP stage. Consortia that did not submit a PO are still eligible to continue directly to the FPP stage.
